Setting Up an EU Entity

10 min read

At some point, selling into Europe requires a European presence. Here's when and how to set one up.

When You Need One

Enterprise sales often require local invoicing. VAT registration thresholds vary by country. Certain contracts require EU data residency. Government and regulated industries may mandate local entities.

Where to Incorporate

Ireland: English-speaking, low corporate tax, tech-friendly. Netherlands: Business-friendly, central location, excellent infrastructure. Germany: Largest market access, but bureaucratic. Estonia: e-Residency enables remote management, lowest overhead.

The Process

Typically 4-8 weeks. Requires local director (can be service provider), registered address, articles of incorporation, and initial capital deposit. Ongoing: annual filings, local accounting, tax returns.
